Felt is the quietest surface you can put on a desk. A mechanical keyboard on bare wood or glass rings; the same keyboard on a felt pad loses most of that resonance, and the difference is obvious within the first sentence you type. If you share a room, or take calls at your desk, that alone is the reason to own one.

The second reason is the hand. Felt is warm to the touch in a way plastic and glass are not, and it does not go cold overnight. In winter, on a desk near a window, this is not a small thing.

Our pads are anthracite grey — a deliberate choice rather than a default. Light felt shows every mark within a month: coffee, ink, the shadow where a forearm rests. Dark felt ages evenly, and anthracite reads as neutral against both black and wood-finish desks, which covers most of what people actually own.

On the surface itself. Felt gives a mouse a consistent, slightly damped glide — slower than a speed cloth, more controlled than hard plastic. It suits work, writing and precision aiming; if you play at very low sensitivity and want the fastest possible glide, a speed cloth surface is the better tool and we make those too.

Care. Lift dust with a lint roller or a soft brush, never a vacuum on full power. A dry mark brushes out. A wet spill should be blotted, not rubbed — rubbing works the stain into the fibre. Felt does not go in a washing machine.

The underside is non-slip, so the pad stays put when you push a keyboard across it. Three sizes, all 15.7 in deep: 31.5, 35.4 and 39.4 in wide — enough for a keyboard and a mouse side by side on any of them.

Frequently asked questions

Does felt really make a keyboard quieter?
Yes, noticeably. Felt absorbs the resonance that a hard desk surface reflects back up through the keyboard case. It does not change the switch sound itself, but it removes most of the hollow ring underneath it.

Is felt good for gaming?
For control-oriented play, yes — the glide is damped and consistent. If you play at very low sensitivity and want the fastest possible glide, choose a speed cloth surface instead.

How do I clean felt?
Lint roller or soft brush for dust, blot a spill rather than rubbing it, and never put it in a washing machine. Rubbing works a stain into the fibre instead of lifting it.

Why only anthracite grey?
Light felt shows coffee, ink and forearm shadow within a month. Anthracite ages evenly and reads as neutral against both black and wood-finish desks.

Frequently asked questions — Felt Desk Pads

1 design in this collection. Printed to order, free shipping with no minimum.

Which desk mat size should I choose?

Three simple reference points: M (11.8×9.8 in) for a crowded desk or office work, L (17.7×15.7 in) for gaming at medium sensitivity, XXL / desk mat (31.5×11.8 to 35.4×15.7 in) to put keyboard and mouse on the same surface. Below 400 DPI, XXL is the only format that leaves enough travel for a full half-turn without lifting the mouse. The size guide walks you through the three measurements.

How thick should a desk mat be?

2 mm: discreet, very direct glide, ideal if the desk is already perfectly flat. 3–4 mm: the best compromise, cushions the wrist without feeling soft. 5 mm and up: smooths out an uneven desk and reduces fatigue over long sessions.

Do these mats work with optical and laser mice?

Yes. The surface is a micro-textured textile read accurately by optical and laser sensors alike, up to high resolutions. The non-slip natural rubber base keeps the mat from moving during sudden movements.

How do I clean a desk mat?

Soft sponge, lukewarm water, a little soap, then dry flat in the open air. No washing machine and no tumble dryer: heat warps the rubber base. The print is dyed into the fibre, so it does not rub off. The full cleaning guide.

Can I have my own artwork printed?

Yes, through the custom mouse pad range: upload your high-definition image and it is printed on the format of your choice. A dedicated range exists for businesses (logo, brand colours, bulk orders). For a full desk, see the custom desk pads.

What about shipping times and costs?

Shipping is free, with no minimum order. Mats are printed to order: allow a few days of production before dispatch — the exact lead time is shown on each product page.
